LAST ASSIGNMENT: Robert Allen was appointed to the Indianapolis Fire Department on 05/01/1963 after serving in the United States Army. He was stationed in Japan as an Army mechanic. He was regularly assigned to Engine 05 on 08/10/1966. Promoted to Chauffeur of Truck 05 on 02/07/1968. Transferred over to Engine 10 on 05/15/1968 before being assigned to the IFD Shops and promoted to Jr. Grade Mechanic in August 1970. He stayed there until returning to suppression on 07/14/1981 on Engine 04 B shift for his last assignment before retiring on 05/01/1986. Robert lived in Fountain Square all his life. He continued to do mechanic work for many years and owned the Fountain Tavern in the neighborhood. He enjoyed fishing, deer and morel mushroom hunting as well.
