LAST ASSIGNMENT: Paul “Woody” Woodward Jr. was appointed to the Indianapolis Fire Department on 06/20/1957, where he spent his first shift on Engine 02. He began his first regular assignment on 07/05/1958 on Engine 23. On 03/18/1960, Paul transferred to Engine 16, before making his next move to Truck 27 on 11/25/1960. He then switched over to Engine 27 on 04/17/1965. Paul stayed there for several months, and then transferred to Engine 11 A shift on 12/27/1965. Paul was then promoted to Lieutenant and led the crew of Truck 19 A shift beginning on 01/12/1977. 2 months later on 03/18/1977, Paul decided to move over to Engine 19 A shift, before making his last transfer to Truck 34 A shift on 06/29/1977. Paul retired from there on 07/02/1982. Paul received the Robertson Ragsdale Award from the American Legion Post for meritorious service with rescuing 2 people from a building fire in 1962. He was active in his Lutheran Church with sitting on the Board of Elders, Board of Deacons, and the Call Committee. He worked at The Indianapolis Motor Speedway for over 50 years as a yellow shirt team member. Paul also attended many breakfasts and luncheons at Local 416 with other retired firefighter members.
