LAST ASSIGNMENT: Jack L. White was appointed to the Indianapolis Fire Department on 09/23/1965. He first served in The United States Army as a soldier, before attending their finance school. He spent his first day on Engine 12 on 09/23/1965. Engine 13 C shift became his first regular assignment on 08/10/1966. He moved over to Engine 22 C shift on 10/09/1968, before transferring to Engine 12 C shift on 02/17/1971. Jack was then promoted to Lieutenant on 07/25/1973. He became the officer on Engine 28 B shift on 10/18/1973. Jack then transferred to Truck 15 B shift on 01/20/1980, before moving to Engine 26 A shift on 04/13/1980. Jack stayed there until 01/18/1993, when he decided to move to his final assignment of Engine 25 B shift. He retired from IFD on 01/03/1997. Jack was a member in the local chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Firefighters organization, serving as president of it for over 20 years. He truly enjoyed assisting and providing items to children with the programs of Fill the Bell, Clothe A Child, and food basket distribution on IFD for many years. Jack continued to stay active with his church and even helped on maintenance issues around the church after retiring from the fire department.
