LAST ASSIGNMENT: Donald Meyers was appointed to the Indianapolis Fire Department on 01/07/1970 after his honorable discharge from The United States Army. He was a member of the 101st Airborne Division. He earned numerous awards including Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Vietnam medals, and other badges. He enjoyed being a paratrooper, and Special Forces as a Green Beret. He became the personal driver for 2 separate Army Generals while in Vietnam. He traveled around to several assignments over his first few years on IFD, before being promoted to Chauffeur on Truck 29 C Shift in January 1977. He then predominately stayed to the Southwest quadrant of the city stations at 19’s Truck, 18’s Engine, all before retiring off of Ladder 18 on 01/11/1994. After his years on the fire department, he focused on his passion of flying aircraft with his private pilot’s license. He would fly nearly every weekend out of the Greenwood or Eagle Creek Airport.
