LAST ASSIGNMENT: Charles “Chuck” Shipley was appointed to the Indianapolis Fire Department on 06/28/1967 after serving 4 years in the United States Army from 1961-1965. His first day on the job was at station 19 and was regularly assigned to Engine 4 in 1969. He transferred to Squad 14, Engine 9, Truck 29 then to Engine 29 B shift from the years 1970-1977. He then spent 6 years at the IFD Shops until February 1983 where he then joined the crew of Engine 27 B shift. He decided to move over to Engine 29 C shift in July 1983. He became the engineer on Engine 29 in August 1984 before retiring on 06/30/1987. In 1989 he relocated to Kingsville, Texas for the remainder of his life. He was active at his local Kingsville’s Masonic Lodge and served as Grand Master. Chuck enjoyed participating as a Shriner clown for entertainment of others. Several times a month over many years, he would make trips south to the United States border, to transport children to Houston and back for hospital care and services.
