U.S. Olympic Committee plans Road to Rio Tour stop in Indianapolis
Country music star Hunter Hays will perform on June 25INDIANAPOLIS (June 8, 2016) – Country music artist Hunter Hayes will headline musical performances and Olympic gold medalists Shawn Johnson and David Boudia will make appearances during the United States Olympic Committee’s Road to Rio Tour stop in Indianapolis June 24-25.
The Road to Rio Tour is visiting nine cities in advance of the 2016 Olympics and Paralympics. The Indianapolis stop coincides with the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Diving that will be hosted at the IU Natatorium on the IUPUI campus June 18-26. As a part of the Road to Rio festivities, the Indiana Sports Corp and its Olympic sports partners will celebrate Olympic Day on June 24 with a special program and guests.
The tour will be located on Monument Circle in downtown Indianapolis on Friday, June 24, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Saturday, June 25, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. All activities are free and open to the public.
Hayes, the youngest male performer to top Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart with his single Wanted, will be featured on the AT&T stage on June 25 at 3 p.m. Thomas Finchum, of Indianapolis and a member of the 2008 Olympic diving team, is now a country music artist and also will perform during the two-day event.
The Road to Rio schedule includes:
• An Olympic Day celebration June 24 at noon to honor Indiana Olympians, including introductions of the members of the U.S. Olympic Diving Team for synchronized 3-meter and 10-meter events. Olympic diving gold medalist David Boudia will be available for autographs, Finchum will perform and USA Diving, USA Gymnastics and USA Track & Field will lead sport demonstrations
• On Saturday, the schedule includes an appearance by Olympic gymnastics gold medalist Shawn Johnson, performances by Hayes (3 p.m.) and Finchum (4:30 p.m.) and additional sport demonstrationsThe Road to Rio includes displays, the Sugarloaf Mountain zip line experience, a basketball sport court and a special long jump pit. It also includes the Inspiring America Trailer, which includes Team USA memorabilia and a history wall, and the Rio Beach Trailer, which features special sports virtual reality experiences. Team USA merchandise will also be available for sale.
