According to the Indianapolis News Archives – St. Patrick’s Church was destroyed by an Arson fire on June 20, 1927. The crash of the burning steeple is considered one of the spectacles of the decade. The alleged Arsonist – Maurice DeLaTour went on trial on November 8, 1927. He is alleged to have set fire to three Catholic Churches in Indianapolis….after looting them. The current St. Patrick’s Church sits on the same site and the bell tower houses an IFD Bell that came from old IFD Station 8. The statue of St. Patrick that sits near the altar inside the church still bears the burn marks from the fire in 1927.
