IFD District Update – 09 FEB 2015

[upme_private]Here are some updates after our Labor Management meeting this week along with some others:

OurHealth Clinic

We met with representatives of the clinic and the city and are pleased with the outcome of these meetings. There will be a new flier coming out in the near future but here are the changes: The age for children has been changed to 3 years and up. They want to stress this is not a pediatric practice but will see children 3 and older for physicals and minor illnesses and injuries. The other clarification is this clinic does require an appointment. You can call (866) 434-3255 to schedule an appointment. They also would like you to register via the Portal (member.ourhealth.org) prior to going.

EMT Certification Issues

We are aware that there are a small number of individuals who are still having issues with their EMT Certs. There is an issue with Acadis system that keeps kicking people to inactive. They are currently working to fix this issue. If you check the system and it shows you as inactive you need to email Chief Kelley so he can get it fixed.

Promotion Process

The Council will hear the proposed changes to the merit law this month. They then will go to the Public Safety Committee later this month and hopefully return to the Council for a final vote in the early part of March. The Chief is hopeful that he can get the process started sometime in March but again this will depend on the Council. The changes affecting promotions are the time in grade ( 8 years for Lieutenant, 11years for Captain w/3 years time in grade, 14 years w/3 years time in grade for Chief) and setting a 3 year limit on the list.

Pinning Ceremony

The ceremony was this past Thursday. There was a very good turnout for this event with individuals receiving pins for 20 years of service and up. Again it is the Chief’s plan to hold this annually each February.

Honor Flight

Indy Honor Flight will be holding a reverse raffle and spaghetti dinner, on February 27 from 6:00pm-10:30pm at the Union Hall, to support another IFD Guardian flight this spring. Tickets are $10 and are available at the Union Hall or buy them now online.

Anthem Breach

As you have all probably heard by now there was a data breach at Anthem. This was discussed yesterday at the Health Care Committee meeting with the city. It is still early in the investigation. The city was informed this did effect personal info but NO medical or credit information was effected nor should there be any impact on coverages. Anthem has set up a toll free number for questions (877) 263-7995 or there is an FAQ section on Anthem.com.

New Nationwide Rep

There is a new Nationwide Rep. His name is Kevin Mitchell and he is taking over for Mike Faulk. We are currently working on getting station visits scheduled. His contact info is: Kevin Mitchell telephone: 1-877-677-3678 email: mitchk9@nationwide.com

State House

Tom Hanify is watching several Bills. There will be a short meeting before/after the IFD District meetings this month. These meetings are open to all L416 members and will include updates of the current legislation, what the likelihood of passage is as well as questions. See below (or view the events calendar) for times.
